Ok Japanese...but the Korean food is better. Not too cheap but not pricey like Koi. Pretty good all around.

If you want nasty sushi that smells like garbage and pay a large sum for it then this place is for you. It is an insult to Japanese cuisine. New Japan needs to be burned down.

New Japan really shouldn't be compared to any other Japanese restaurant in the area. It's in a category all of its own. Unlike most of the Japanese restaurants around here, it's a REAL restaurant, i.e. sit down, calmly enjoy a meal, pretend that despite being a college student, you actually have the time to be at a restaurant. The service is excellent, lots of really attentive people who actually seem interested that you like green tea.

it occurred to me that i walk by this place when i go to the pet store on dempster. how that has anything to do with reviewing the restaurant is not in my realm of questions i am able to answer. HOWEVER! yes. right. that is all.

The food was absolutely disgusting. I took my family there for parents weekend and was embarrassed by my choice. As for the atmosphere, it looks like a discount nail salon and we were the only people in there on a friday night.

I love New Japan. It's the best Japanese food in Evanston. The service is very nice and the food is awesome. If you're in the mood for quality sit-down Sushi in walking distance, this it the place.

Not a bad place for Japanese food...Renga Tei in Lincolnwood is better, but the portions are pretty generous here and the prices aren't terrible. Service is generally very friendly. The maki sushi is much larger than what people usually make around here.
