This is definitely one of my favorite places to hang out. Why? Well, apart from the music, great food and smoking, there are people from all colleges in Chicago. This is perhaps the only bar/restaurant in Evanston that actually attracts people from the city. So if you do want to socialize beyond your "NU circle" take a step into this cafe' and you will be more than happy with what you get. Remember to always tip these waiters, they work there butt off and many times get very little tip because college students forget that a job as a waiter is never well paid!
Cheers

I was very excited when Cafe Hookah opened in Evanston. I liked the chill atmosphere, the friendly waitresses who would let you stay for 3 hrs and bring in your own hershey sundae pies and also entertain suggestions of adding an Alice in Wonderland blend. However, I went back to the cafe after a long absent and discovered than an insidious force had crept in. I now believe that the cafe is being run by mob forces. Although the place always had a slightly seedy, persian-underground vibe, it was never clearly an establishment for organized crime. I was first accosted by large men in leather jackets who demanded a $2 cover... ok, you shouldn't pay to sit around and inhale smoke into your lungs... there wasn't even a belly dancer or anything. Anyway, once I got in, I found that the music was turned up twice as loud and the lights twice as low... the hookah bar is essentially a place for conversation while smoking delicately blended tobacco. But the new environment completely overwhelms the senses. There were also small groups of devious looking high school who would pop in for just a few minutes and then leave in a few minutes... they had obviously just completed a drug deal. Anyway, I no longer recommend the hookah bar... however, it is byob... so I do suggest going with a bottle of wine (on nite's that don't charge a cover), getting fucked up, smoke some hookah, and leave for better drunkenness and debauchery. Happy Easter!
