Let's just go to Gio's. Govind still smells and Linkous can't read.

I went there for lunch when there were about 12 other people in the restaurant. The server totally ignored me and my friend, even though we were 6 feet away from her. The food came out after half and hour. The noodles couldn't even be called al dente, they were so hard!! Tastes awful

Gio is by far the best Italian Restaurant in Evanston, and one the the best in the whole Chicago area. Their food is incredible, totally authentic, no Americanized BS here. They have a huge wine selection, their specials are fantastic, and their thin crust pizza is real, Italian thin crust, the kind you get in Rome, non of that New York wannabe stuff. The atmosphere is great, the waiters are really nice and are very well informed, and to top it all off, prices are very reasonable. Don't pay attention to the reviews that criticize Gio, because in the year since it opened, it has really come into its own!

The food here was soooo good! We had fish, pasta, chicken, salads, and appetizers, and everything was AMAZING. We literally ate everything that was served to us, including finishing off the bread basket! The salmon was divine! I'll definately be back.

This is quite possibly one, and perhaps the only, bad dining experience I have had here in Evanston. The menu has lots of traditional dishes listed but the presentation and actual conception of the food leaves lots to be desired. The service was alright, but evidently didn't know a lot of about the menu, nor did they know about the current specials. For deserts alone, I heard two different things from the server and something completely different (and wrong) from the manager on duty. On top of this, one of the greatest travesties of the evenings was the desert. Upon ording Creme Brulee, we found that it had been carmelized earlier in the day and then chilled. Not only does this defeat the purpose and intent of the dish, but it significantly decreases the presentation and texture. As a warm thing chills immediately in a refrigerator, water condenses on top. This is very basic knowledge and their pastry chef should be fired for doing so. The only explanation the manager had was, "Oh, we are trying to make our own 'twist' on creme brulee." I'm sorry, but there is only so much you can "twist" a dish as standard as creme brulee and not really f**k it up.

My boyfriend and I only had pizzas and dessert, so I'll just give my opinion on those. The pizzas were okay, but sort of bland. We split a pear crostata for dessert. It was definitely homemade and very pleasant--kind of like an individual apple pie, except filled with pears. Tasty. Service was pretty good--nothing to complain about. All in all, this place seems pretty good, but if they're looking to be an outstanding restaurant, they will need to add more flavor to their pizza.

After going back to Gio again, I felt I should write about it again. I was with a group and several of us ordered the spinach lasagna special for that day, which was tasty but everyone's was refrigerator cold in the middle. We let that slide. Well, when we got the bill, we saw that they had charged us a different price than we had seen on the menu. When we asked the waiter about it, he told us that the price for the daily lasagna was higher than the one in the menu, when the menu clearly listed "Lasagna, changes daily." In any case, he didn't even check the menu again and just assumed we were wrong. We felt just great after that. They need to revise their menu so we know the difference between the daily special and the lasagna that "changes daily." Or maybe they expect their customers to read their minds about the prices. In any case, I don't think I'll be going back. Not worth it.

Tried the pizza, just the basic tomato, cheese & basil -- and it was just awful. Absolutely no flavor to it. The few tomatoes were sliced way too thick and there was hardly any basil. Tried two pieces to give it the benfit of the doubt but could not force myself to eat anymore of it. Place was empty when I went but got seated at a table where the setting sun was blinding. Service was good, although I had to ask to have the pizza taken off the bill since it was inedible. Would not recommend it at all.

Gio's is really impressive. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of european style and youthful elegance. The service was very friendly and helpful, and the food was heavenly. The only thing I'd have to say is that the portions are smaller than you'd get in other restaurants for the price, but it's worth it.

I've had no complaints with Gio's at all. Seems like NU students go there for pizza, but their entrees are what you should go for. Good Italian food is something I crave and I can get it here. With the crap Dave's serves two shops down, I wouldn't be surprised if Gio's will run them out of town.
